Villa Buonaccorsi

Nestled in the hills of Potenza Picena, Villa Buonaccorsi is one of the most extraordinary period residences in the Marche region. Built in the eighteenth century as a summer residence for the powerful Buonaccorsi family, the villa still preserves sumptuously decorated interiors that testify to the taste and splendor of the Baroque period. Its frescoed halls and monumental rooms transport the visitor back in time, to an atmosphere of refined noble elegance.

The true jewel of the villa is its magnificent Italian garden, one of the best preserved in Italy and a unique example in the region. Arranged on five descending terraces, the park is a scenic route that surprises at every step: grottoes, niches with statues of satyrs and deities, fountains, fishponds, obelisks and geometric flower beds create a perfect harmony between architecture and nature. The monumental central staircase connects the various levels, offering ever new and spectacular perspectives.

What makes the garden of Villa Buonaccorsi unique are its animated "machines" and water features, typical of the Baroque taste for wonder and ingenuity. Among the most famous attractions are the Grotto of the Friars, with life-size automatons, and a small theatre with mechanical puppets that move thanks to hydraulic mechanisms, once the favorite entertainment of the villa's illustrious guests. Although the villa is currently only open to visitors on special occasions, its garden remains a masterpiece of art and hydraulic engineering to discover.
