The construction dates back to 1432; the name is of Greek origin, deriving from the milky color of the water in the eponymous ditch, whose course ran nearby. The spring that feeds the fountain, however, is located a short distance away; the water is collected in a cistern and conveyed by free fall, taking advantage of the natural slope.
