Sant’Agostino Complex

Spirituality

The former Sant'Agostino complex, now the headquarters of the Ferdinando Scarfiotti Cultural Center, is a true treasure chest of inestimable treasures. The date of the rebuilding of the entire structure, particularly the church, is uncertain; until the early decades of the eighteenth century, it had two naves, with four arches, eight altars, and three doors. The current layout dates back to the middle of the same century, and the building preserves paintings of great importance: 'St. Nicholas of Tolentino intercedes for the souls in Purgatory', attributed to the school of Pomarancio, and a wooden painting by Bernardino di Mariotto, dated 1506, depicting the 'Madonna with Child between Saints Anthony and Francis and Musician Angels'. Under a large painting by Piero Tedeschi depicting 'Magdalene at the foot of the Cross', in the center of the apse, a particularly valuable instrument, dated 1757, embellishes the building: the imposing organ by Giovanni Fedeli.
