Re-enactment of Sciabica Fishing

Experience the history of our fishermen.

"Sciapecotti" was the name once used to identify the fishermen of Porto Potenza Picena, who practiced fishing with the traditional sciapeca (shore seine net). This ancient technique—using a small wooden boat and a large seine net consisting of two long wings and a central bag designed to catch small fish—is brought back to life each year through the historical reenactment of traditional shore seine fishing.

On the first Sunday of August (August 2, 2026), visitors can experience the excitement on the beach during the "Dawn Haul" and the "Evening Haul", followed by a tasting of the traditional Porto Potenza fish stew (brodetto) served on the beach.
A unique opportunity to relive—or discover—the customs and traditions deeply rooted in the area's maritime heritage, small-scale fishing, the sea, and its local produce.

Taking part in this event feels like stepping into an old movie.
